About The Position

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University, is seeking applications for a Course Lecturer for the Winter 2027 academic year to teach MIMM 214 – Introductory Immunology: Elements of Immunity. This three-credit course serves as an introduction to immunology for a broad range of students, covering the cellular and molecular components of the immune system, how immune responses are generated, and the role of the immune system in human disease.

Requirements

  • Expert level knowledge of Immunology and ability to communicate course concepts.
  • Ability to manage a group of TAs and TEAM students.
  • Ability to provide engaging lectures to a large classroom.
  • Ability to solve classroom and student situations.
  • Ability to manage invigilation and set up quizzes, midterm, and final exam assessments.
  • Familiarity with the Student Accessibility and Achievement program.
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant for more than one class in Immunology and/or immunology teaching experience in either CEGEP or University-level.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing students to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Facilitating classroom discussions.
  • Assessing and evaluating student performance (2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 10 formative assessments, 1 final exam, and 1 optional creative assignment).
  • Guiding 4 TEAM undergraduate students and 3 Teaching Assistants.
  • Preparing and giving engaging lectures.
  • Inviting guest lecturers to speak about careers in immunology or their experience living with autoimmune diseases.
  • Ensuring rooms are booked for assessments.
  • Securing invigilators and ensuring they understand their roles.
  • Preparing and assembling assessments.
  • Grading the optional creative assignment.
  • Assisting TAs with grading formative assessments.
  • Assisting TEAM students with discussion board questions.
  • Holding regular office hours.
  • Populating the myCourses (D2L) page.
  • Ensuring students receive timely feedback on assessments.
