Course Lecturer SOCI 222: Urban Sociology
About The Position
The Department of Sociology is inviting applications to teach courses in fall 2026. This specific posting is for SOCI 222 – Urban Sociology. The course involves a comparative analysis of the process of urbanization in Europe, North America, and the Third World, examining its effects on social institutions and individuals. It will cover theories of urbanization and urbanism, the Canadian urban system, and urban problems from a comparative perspective. The course is scheduled from August 31 to December 4, 2026, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:35 PM to 3:55 PM, and will be taught in-person in the Arts Building, room W-120.
Requirements
- PhD or ABD in Sociology.
- Familiarity with the dominant approaches to urban sociology (Chicago School, political economy/Marxist urban sociology).
- Familiarity with contemporary issues in urban sociology, including gentrification, ethno-racial conflict and diversity, and urban politics/policy.
- Authorized to work in Canada.
- Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
- English communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

- Previous TA or course lecturer experience for the course(s) for which you are applying.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a lecture-based course with an enrollment capacity of 115 students.
- Teach the course in-person.
