About The Position

The Institute of Islamic Studies at McGill University is seeking a Course Lecturer to teach ISLA 221/D1 002: Introductory Arabic during the Fall 2026 term. This course provides an introduction to Modern Standard Arabic, covering pronunciation, reading and writing of the Arabic script, and basic sentence construction for speaking and comprehension in the present tense. Requirements

  • M.A. or PhD degree in Arabic linguistics, literature, or a related field.
  • Relevant teaching experience at a university or college level.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
  • English communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ISLA 221/D1 002: Introductory Arabic in the Fall 2026 term.
  • Cover pronunciation, reading and writing of the Arabic script.
  • Teach speaking and comprehension of basic sentences and commands in the present tense.
