About The Position

This course explores key concepts relating to terrorism and counter-terrorism as defined by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Students will be introduced to the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, along with other key International instruments relating to global anti-terror efforts. Topics may include the spread of terrorism; international legal responses; and terrorism in connection with human rights. This course curriculum was developed in partnership with the UNODC.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree (MEd / EdD will not be considered to meet the minimum educational requirement).
  • MA in Criminology, Sociology, or a related discipline.
  • CV (Maximum of 10 pages, with 12-point font and 2.54 cm margins).
  • Candidate Application Form (CAF - Appendix I).
  • Name and contact information for referees.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or PhD in progress preferred.
  • Work and/or research experience related to international organizations and pan-national treaties.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Verification of highest degree (highly recommended to include with application).

Responsibilities

  • Teach UNDC205 VAA – Counter-Terrorism course.
  • Develop and deliver course curriculum in partnership with UNODC.
  • Introduce students to the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and other key international instruments.
  • Cover topics such as the spread of terrorism, international legal responses, and terrorism in connection with human rights.
  • Assess students based on the Candidate Application Form (CAF) and other relevant criteria as per the collective agreement.
  • Manage a class size of up to 140 students.
  • Provide marking and grading allowance as per Article 28.2.
  • Coordinate large classes or multi-section courses as per Article 28.3.
