About The Position

The Global Studies program is seeking an energetic graduate or fourth-year student to assist with grading and student advising for the "Sustainability Policy at Home and Abroad" course. This core course for Global Sustainability majors surveys U.S. and international sustainability policy, covering topics such as air and water quality, endangered species protection, public land management, private land conservation, ocean plastic pollution, sustainable development, and Indigenous people’s rights. The course examines the origins of these policies in broader conservation thought and teaches students to evaluate policies using current natural resource and environmental challenges like energy independence, biodiversity loss, recreational access, and climate change. Students will also learn about the actors and processes involved in environmental policy decisions, including Congress, agencies, interest groups, appropriations, oversight, rulemaking, and environmental assessments. Principal assignments are themed around live natural resource policymaking, and guest speakers provide insights from environmental policymakers, analysts, and advocates. This role is an excellent opportunity for students from any discipline to broaden their subject matter knowledge, and may be particularly valuable for students in policy-related disciplines.
