About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the Courier is responsible for delivery and pick up services between the Hospital and outside entities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Maintain a clean driving record
  • Ability to read maps and or follow street directions
  • Should be able to lift/move 50 lbs. from floor to table and move 250 lbs. on wheels.
  • Must be able to perform tasks that require hand-eye, and/or body coordination, such as loading and pushing carts, and driving a motor vehicle.
  • Should be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations, such as using a keyboard, writing, filing for extended periods of time, and performing tasks that require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.
  • Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time, in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.
  • Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language, in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Collects items for delivery form various areas of the Hospital, including (but not limited to) Computer Services, Mailroom, Purchasing.
  • Assures van/car is filled with fuel.
  • Checks logbooks in mailroom and with Purchasing for unscheduled stops.
  • Adjusts schedule as needed.
  • Plans route to maximize efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Uses and documents petty cash and charge cards as indicated.
  • Documentation is returned to Purchasing Manager.
  • Communicates with Purchasing for schedule revisions, including emergencies.
  • Maintains courier vehicle including routine maintenance, vehicle documentation including registration and inspections.
  • Unexpected repairs to be addressed with Purchasing Manager.
  • At the end of each work day, vehicle keys, cell phone and other Hospital owned equipment and or supplies are to be returned.
  • Assists in stockroom, mailroom and linen room as requested.
  • Train new employees. All details of the job are properly explained and demonstrated.
  • Provides guidance and reinforcement to new employees regarding procedures and department policies.
