About The Position

The Courier is responsible for delivering laboratory specimens, mail, supplies, and other materials between affiliated MercyOne facilities and laboratory customers. The role requires excellent customer service, compliance with established policies and safety procedures, accurate package tracking, and timely transport. The Courier uses logistical software and devices, maintains required temperatures for temperature-dependent materials, and keeps vehicles and courier bags clean. The position also supports LEAN principles, participates in department huddles, and helps teach peers.

Requirements

High school degree or GED.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Valid driver’s or chauffeur’s license.
Must meet MercyOne’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to drive under Iowa state law.
Complete Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three months of hire.

Nice To Haves

Two years of courier experience.
Working knowledge of materials management.

Responsibilities

Transport laboratory specimens, mail, materials, and supplies between affiliated facilities and laboratory customers while providing excellent customer service.
Follow established procedures and policies, including infection control and bloodborne pathogen requirements.
Handle chemicals according to established safety protocols.
Meet defined workload productivity standards and support and utilize LEAN principles.
Use courier logistical software and devices to track packages and document routes.
Ensure temperature-dependent materials are transported at their required storage temperature.
Maintain the cleanliness of vehicles and courier bags.
Attend and participate in department huddles.
Follow established policies and procedures to accurately track packages and achieve optimal transport times.
Participate in teaching peers.
