Requirements

Associate degree in Health and Human Services counseling field and an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) designation OR; Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field and Certified Associate Counselor – Drug & Alcohol (CAC-AD) certification.
Certified as an alcohol and drug counselor by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.
Ability to work a varied schedule that may include evenings.
Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with participants, other staff, and leadership personnel and react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the Department.
American Psychological Association’s Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing.

Responsibilities

Administer, score, and interpret all required screening and assessment tools including but not limited to the Texas Christian University (TCU) Drug Screen, and Treatment Assignment Protocol (TAP).
Use other assessment and substance abuse evaluation tools to support level of care American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement.
Conduct screenings and assessments during the intake process and back-end screenings for standing populations.
Conduct post testing for participants as they go through the program.
Interview participants to collect additional data not covered by assessment tools.
Review Division of Corrections (DOC) files.
Score and interpret results of assessment and testing tools.
Prepare written reports based on results of assessment and testing tools.
Create and maintain individual treatment plans for the participants.
Conduct individual counseling sessions and group counseling.
Maintain clinical chart per the Code of Maryland (COMAR) regulations and requirement.
Complete discharge and aftercare plans.
Participate in staffing regarding participants with other team members.
Perform other duties as assigned.
