About The Position

CoreCivic is seeking a part-time Educational Counselor to provide academic and vocational guidance and counseling to inmates/residents, supporting their personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. The position coordinates and administers mandated or standardized tests to evaluate student progress and program effectiveness, helps maintain student enrollment in the Education Department, and teaches as necessary. It regularly works fewer than 30 hours per week.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education from an accredited college or university.
• Three years of experience in a full-time professional education position.
• Experience with Microsoft Office or similar software applications.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess or be eligible for certification, licensure, or other credentials if required by contract and/or state of employment.
• Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Education.
• Teaching licensure.

Responsibilities

• Collect, organize, and analyze information about individuals from records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to assess their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics.
• Evaluate inmates/students for vocational and academic post-release planning and help ensure enrollment in appropriate classes.
• Counsel inmates/students to define goals and plan and document a program of study reflecting their interests, abilities, and needs.
• Administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and evaluate results to determine appropriate class enrollment.
• Assess student accomplishments and maintain required progress reports.
• Provide occupational, educational, and other information to help inmates/students develop realistic educational and vocational plans.
• Maintain a career center with current information about job opportunities.
• Support the department's education philosophy and instructional goals through instruction and action.
• Teach as necessary and assist in maintaining student enrollment in the Education Department.
