About The Position

The Counselor works directly with patients to support their recovery and help them build toward social, academic, and occupational goals. This role includes individual and group counseling, treatment planning, documentation, and ongoing patient support. The Counselor also helps patients adjust to a drug-free life and supports them emotionally and practically as they address challenges in recovery. This position requires adherence to program policies, schedules, and all relevant federal, state, and accreditation regulations. Duties are performed within the scope of the Counselor’s license or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular individual and group counseling sessions
  • Assist patients in developing and updating treatment plans in compliance with state guidelines
  • Complete intake and readmission services, including early-stage support until a primary counselor is assigned
  • Provide crisis intervention and backup support for other counselors’ patients as needed
  • Make appropriate referrals and coordinate care with other providers
  • Support patients post-discharge with follow-up for at least 30 days
  • Maintain clear, complete, and organized patient records
  • Document all patient contact and ensure all services provided by the care team are recorded
  • Submit records for periodic supervisory review
  • Provide required documentation for insurance, legal, and other third-party reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Attend and participate in weekly treatment team meetings
  • Provide training and support to peers when needed
  • Assist in implementing new programs and services
  • Notify the Program Director of issues with caseload or scheduling
  • Demonstrate a commitment to recovery as a clinical and human process—not a moral failing
  • Treat patients and colleagues with respect, hope, and care
  • Maintain professionalism, especially in high-pressure or sensitive situations
  • Stay up to date on addiction research and treatment trends
  • Participate in required in-service training, conferences, and professional development
  • Support community outreach and public relations efforts as needed
  • Meet attendance and scheduling expectations
  • Report injuries, hazards, or security issues immediately
  • Perform OBOT services and other duties as assigned
