About The Position

This licensed hourly counselor position will provide counseling and psychological services to Adelphi University students. The counselor will also participate in other aspects of the SCC mission as assigned. Applicants with strong cultural competence expertise will be given extra consideration.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and licensure to provide mental health treatment in New York State.
• Counseling, counseling psychology, social work or related field or Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
• At least four years’ clinical experience, including at least one year of direct counseling at a college or community mental health facility or other outpatient behavioral health program.
• Valid New York State license to practice in your field
• Experience providing short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy, including DBT, ACT and SFBT.
• Behavioral Health Hospital experience
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Strong ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with college students preferred.
• Independent license strongly preferred.
• Previous experience working with the college population strongly preferred.
• SIFI training available to social workers.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally-congruent and trauma-informed psychological services to a diverse college student population with a wide range of mental health concerns, including ongoing individual and group counseling; crisis interventions; referrals to care; and clinical evaluations.
• Provide clinical consultation to students and their families, and to the campus community at large to promote mental health and well-being.
• Design and deliver psychoeducational workshops for students.
• Adhere to SCC standards regarding case management, timely documentation, and scope of practice.
• When assigned, contribute to the training of doctoral and graduate level trainees by providing clinical supervision. SIFI training available to social workers.
• Comply with the practices, protocols, and record keeping set forth by HIPAA and New York State Mental Hygiene Law.
• Stay current with the latest NY State and national legal and ethical policies for counselors and counseling centers.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
