About The Position

CWI Works is recruiting for a Correspondence Writer position through the Forest Service Experienced Services (FS-ACES) Program. This grant-administered program provides experienced professionals with an opportunity to support the mission and operations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service. A Correspondence Writer is responsible for receiving, organizing, processing, and responding to all forms of written correspondence, including electronic letters and correspondence received through the mail. The skills required pertain to the systematic management of all official communications to ensure they are received, acted upon, and stored effectively, supporting both internal operations and external relationships. The Secretary has required a timely response to controlled correspondence, and the agency needs to prioritize these responses to ensure they are handled in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Must be 55 years of age or older
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and managing professional correspondence
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and tracking official communications
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining accurate records
  • Demonstrated experience routing correspondence for appropriate review and signature
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Sound judgment
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with correspondence tracking systems
  • Experience with government or administrative applications

Responsibilities

  • Drafting and writing correspondence in order to process, receive, organize, and respond to all forms of written correspondence, including electronic letters and correspondence received through the mail.
  • Responding promptly and accurately to written correspondence, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and timeliness using internal controlled correspondence systems and clear guidance/text language.
  • Maintaining records of correspondence for legal, compliance, and operational purposes.
  • Routing correspondence to the appropriate individual or department for review and signature.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and data protection when managing and tracking correspondence.
  • Using the systematic management of all official communications to ensure they are received, acted upon, and stored effectively, supporting both internal operations and external relationships.
