About The Position

Join the team as a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC), where you make a real difference every day. At the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you teach practical plumbing skills that help inmates build confidence and prepare for future opportunities. In this role, you guide learners in a secure corrections setting, where structure and accountability are part of the daily work. This position gives you the chance to inspire growth while supporting essential facility operations.

Requirements

Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must meet the PA residency requirement.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Deliver instruction on plumbing systems, tools, and methods in classroom and worksite settings
Guide inmate work crews and monitor their progress on assigned plumbing tasks
Document inmate attendance, learning outcomes, and assignment details
Manage and account for tools and materials used during training and work assignments
Plan daily schedules and determine instructional methods based on project needs and inmate abilities
