About The Position

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 1/2 at Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska. This role involves providing essential healthcare in a secure facility housing sentenced and unsentenced offenders. Nurses will need to become fluent in our policies, procedures, and protocols, have a deep understanding of their scope of practice, and be comfortable practicing in a highly autonomous setting. The patient population at ACC-East is about 400 individuals.

Requirements

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse (for Corrections Nurse 2).
Professional Licenses: Alaska Registered Nursing License or within 30 days of graduation from nursing program.
Valid driver's license.
Must pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
Must provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.
Must be fingerprinted.
Must pass a criminal history check.

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska (for Corrections Nurse 2).
Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

Triage and assess patients
Administer prescribed medications and treatments
Maintain patient medical records
Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of the inmates
Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner
