About The Position

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 1/2 to join the team at the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), located in Seward, Alaska. This position is part of the Health and Rehabilitation Services team, which provides essential healthcare in secure facilities housing sentenced and unsentenced offenders. The role involves working in a maximum-security facility that houses up to 535 male inmates. Nurses in correctional settings exercise autonomy and must become fluent in policy, procedures, and protocols, with a deep understanding of their scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • For Corrections Nurse 2: Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska; AND EITHER Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska; OR One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Alaska Registered Nursing License or within 30 days of graduation from nursing program.
  • Professional License: Alaska Registered Nursing License or ability to obtain one
  • 3 Professional References, 2 of which must be supervisory

  • Employees are required to be tested annually for active pulmonary tuberculosis.
  • All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted.
  • The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior service as a Corrections Nurse I, Psychiatric Nurse I, or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
  • Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities
