About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as a Corrections Food Service Instructor. This position guides inmate workers in food service tasks to support safe, organized, and efficient meal operations within the facility. The role focuses on instruction, supervision, and maintaining proper standards in all work areas.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Teach inmates proper methods for preparing, producing, baking, and serving meals
• Monitor equipment, tools, and work spaces to ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards
• Review menus, adjust recipes, and handle food storage with accurate first in first out procedures
• Plan daily tasks for inmate workers and evaluate their performance to support skill development
• Maintain care, custody, and control over inmates during all work activities
