About The Position

The Corrections Corporal position at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln, NE, involves monitoring inmates/offenders in various situations and activities, either directly or through subordinate Correctional Officers. This role enforces facility rules and regulations, conducts and evaluates on-the-job training for new officers, and documents inmate/offender behavior, status, and movement. Responsibilities include searching for contraband, operating security equipment, managing inmate/offender housing areas (including sanitation, meals, and supplies), maintaining daily control documentation, overseeing visiting areas, and assisting in the transportation of inmates/offenders within the community. The Corporal also assists supervisory staff in maximum security areas and recommends security procedure improvements. Overtime, both voluntary and mandatory, including weekends, holidays, and double shifts, is expected.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of examination and screening process.
  • Must be able to work a shift assignment including weekends and holidays.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inmates/offenders in a wide variety of situations and activities, either directly or indirectly through subordinate Correctional Officers.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations governing the conduct of inmates/offenders.
  • Conduct and evaluate on-the-job training for newly assigned Corrections Officers, if applicable.
  • Document inmate/offender behavior, status, and movement.
  • Search inmates'/offenders' person, quarters, and work areas for contraband.
  • Operate or monitor the operation of manual, computerized, and/or electronically controlled security equipment, maintaining controlled movement of inmates/offenders, staff members, and the public.
  • Be responsible for inmate/offender housing areas, including sanitation, serving meals, laundry inventory, and supplies.
  • Maintain all daily control documentation, such as logs and counts.
  • May be in charge of visiting areas, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Transport or oversee the transportation of inmates/offenders who leave the facility on any form of transportation into the community.
  • Assist supervisory staff in the operation of maximum security areas, such as segregation units.
  • Recommend improvements to security procedures when appropriate.
