About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry is looking for a Community Corrections Officer (CCO) responsible for supervising individuals released from incarceration, ensuring compliance with supervision conditions, and supporting successful reintegration into the community. Core duties will include conducting intakes, risk and needs assessments, regular check-ins, home and workplace visits, case management plan development, coordination with mental health clinics and law enforcement agencies, documentation, and violation response.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing adult community corrections system.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of investigating, surveillance, interviewing, assessing and paraprofessional counseling.
  • Knowledge of principles, and techniques of caseload management.
  • Knowledge of principles of sociology, and psychology.
  • Knowledge of cultural, and socioeconomic differences and effects on human behaviors.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of the work system and knowledge and application of evidenced based community risk and needs models.
  • Ability to apply and interpret Arizona Criminal Code and the applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the adult community corrections system.
  • Ability to conduct investigations, searches, surveillance and interviews.
  • Ability to manage caseloads.
  • Ability to apply the principles and methods of sociology and psychology in interactions with offenders.
  • Ability to perform crisis intervention.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, organizational and time management.
  • Must be twenty one (21) years of age prior to admission in a Corrections Training Academy.
  • Must attend and complete the Corrections Officer Training Academy (COTA) and the Community Corrections Officer Field Readiness Training.
  • Must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
  • Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment.
  • A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment.
  • Employees in a safety-sensitive position may be subject to random drug testing, as required by Department Policy.
  • Employees required to drive for state business must hold a valid, class-appropriate, and unexpired driver's license.
  • Employees must complete all mandatory training and maintain an acceptable driving record, which is subject to ongoing license checks.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) or more years of any combination of work experience in criminal justice/corrections, human services or social services is required with a focus on managing a caseload/case management practices or a leadership/supervisory position
  • If no case management/caseload experience, seven (7) or more years of professional experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Managing offender caseloads by balancing administrative, investigative, and counseling responsibilities.
  • Developing and implementing treatment or service plans based on thorough investigations into an offender’s social, financial, and employment background, which includes conducting home visits and interviews.
  • Connecting offenders with community resources for rehabilitation and counseling, while providing guidance on their progress and daily living.
  • Writing case notes, progress reports, and warrants for violations, as well as testifying at court or administrative hearings.
  • Maintaining relationships with community groups, local officials, and the offender's family to resolve issues, while participating in staff meetings and consulting with supervisors on difficult case decisions.
