About The Position

The Henderson Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals of character, courage, conscience, and compassion for the challenging and rewarding career of a Corrections Officer. This role involves performing security work, overseeing and directing the activities of inmates within the Detention Center and during transport to other facilities. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license.
  • Upon hire, possess a Nevada or “border state” driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, and age 21 by the start of the academy.
  • Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor.
  • Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence.
  • Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.
  • Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear.
  • Must successfully complete the Henderson Police Department Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department.
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years.
  • Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.
  • Completed Employment Application.
  • Completed Supplemental Questionnaire.
  • Must be available to attend the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on one of the offered dates.
  • Pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) with the following minimum standards: Vertical Jump 11.5 inches, Agility Run 23.4 seconds, Sit-Ups 24 in 60 seconds, Push-Ups 18 (no time limit), 300 Meter Run 82 seconds, 1.5 Mile Run/Walk 20 minutes and 20 seconds.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Successfully complete a polygraph examination.
  • Successfully complete a medical/physical examination.
  • Successfully complete a Psychological examination.
  • Successfully complete a drug and alcohol test.
