About The Position

The Nebraska Correctional Center for Women is seeking a Corrections Corporal. This role involves monitoring inmates/offenders in various situations, enforcing facility rules, documenting behavior, searching for contraband, operating security equipment, and managing inmate/offender housing areas. Responsibilities also include maintaining daily control documentation, overseeing visiting areas, and transporting inmates/offenders. The position may involve assisting supervisory staff in maximum security areas and recommending security procedure improvements. Overtime, both voluntary and mandatory, including weekends, holidays, and double shifts, is expected.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition
  • Successful completion of examination and screening process
  • Must be able to work a shift assignment including weekends and holidays
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exam in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inmates/offenders in a wide variety of situations and activities.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations governing the conduct of inmates/offenders.
  • Document inmate/offender behavior, status and movement.
  • Search inmates'/offenders' person, quarters and work areas for contraband.
  • Operate or monitor the operation of manual, computerized and/or electronically controlled security equipment, maintaining controlled movement of inmates/offenders, staff members and the public.
  • Responsible for inmate/offender housing areas, including sanitation, serving meals, laundry inventory, and supplies.
  • Maintain all daily control documentation, i.e. logs, counts, etc.
  • May be in charge of visiting areas, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations involving those areas.
  • Transport or oversee the transportation of inmates/offenders who leave the facility on any form of transportation into the community.
  • Assist supervisory staff in the operation of a maximum security areas.
  • Recommend improvements to security procedures when appropriate.
