About The Position

Corrections Corporals perform the duties of shift supervisor in the absence of Corrections Sergeant and serves as the primary training officer for corrections personnel. This position has regular contact with or control over Indian Children and/or Vulnerable Adults. In compliance with Federal Law, this position will not be filled by an applicant with any felonious offense or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact, or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children. NSORNA Nisqually's Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires all individuals who have ever been convicted of a sex offense to register with our Public Safety Department. This is true whether or not you have to register with another jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Must hold a current certification from the BIA Corrections Officer Training Program or equivalent academy.
  • 2 years' recent work experience as a Corrections Officer.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
  • Must have an acceptable ranking on an examination based on knowledge, skills, and abilities to include an oral, written, and physical agility exam.
  • Must have no felony convictions or series of offenses of a minor nature which would lend them to establish a pattern of criminal behavior, or any criminal instances concerning moral turpitude.
  • Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical exam.
  • Complete certified supervision course prior to the completion of probation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the duties of Corrections Officer.
  • Supervises, observes, and instructs Corrections Officers in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Review and appropriately channel reports of daily activities and other report job related information.
  • Make facility inspections.
  • Keep records and compose reports on jail functions.
  • Provide training to subordinates on corrections related operations rules, procedures, and other custody related subjects
  • Assist with performance evaluations and corrective actions for Corrections Officers.
  • Maintain the secure and orderly operation of the facility, being prepared to respond in emergency situations.
  • Oversee the care and custody of inmates incarcerated in the jail.
