About The Position

This position is located at Pamlico Correctional Institution, a medium security prison housing approximately 750 adult male offenders. Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II’s in medium custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

Positions assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of offenders is maintained.
Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
Positions may serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
At this level, employees may supervise offenders in restrictive housing.
