About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency with over 14,000 employees responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina, categorized by custody levels. Sampson Correctional Institution is a medium/minimum custody facility housing up to 462 male offenders in Clinton, North Carolina. This position reports to the Correctional Lieutenant and provides supervision for subordinate staff.

Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer OR Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
