About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons, probation/parole services, and various administrative and support divisions. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina, providing safety, security, and rehabilitative services. Harnett Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility housing up to 988 male offenders.

Requirements

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer
Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Accounting for persons, funds, and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
Provide supervision of subordinate staff.
