About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina, categorized by custody levels and housing individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. Harnett Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Lillington, North Carolina, housing up to 988 male offenders. This position reports to the Correctional Lieutenant II and provides supervision of subordinate staff.
Requirements
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer OR Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
- Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Accounting for persons, funds, and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
