About The Position
Located at NC Correctional Institution for Women, this facility holds offenders from minimum, medium, and close custody levels. This position will have contact with offenders and is located inside the facility. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
Requirements
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Nice To Haves
- Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.
- Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
- Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
Responsibilities
- Provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system.
- Accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of total programs activities for one or more major and broad programs for offenders at a large facility or institution, including correctional programs (work release, incentive wage, study release, home leave, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation); and supportive counseling
- Considerable contact with community agencies to enrich programs, establish new programs, and to conduct home leave and work release investigations.
- Monitor effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities and may supervise subordinate staff.
- Responsible for coordinating programs activities with custody staff
