About The Position

Reporting to the Warden I, this position will direct the Programs Department for the rehabilitation & reentry of male offenders in a minimum custody correctional facility. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services OR Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Functioning as an assistant to the Warden I of the correctional center while offering a variety of Programs services to the offender population.
  • Directing a major program in an area or on a statewide basis. The primary programs areas are offender classification, correctional programs (adult basic education, incentive wage, recreation, religion, and volunteer programs), and supportive counseling.
  • Supervising subordinate personnel who are responsible for the daily implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
