About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Caswell Correctional Center is a medium custody facility located in Blanch, North Carolina. It houses approximately 484 male offenders. This supervisory role will develop and manage programs which must satisfy the goals of offender rehabilitation by providing educational, vocational, recreational, religious, group therapy, and self-help opportunities. Reporting to the Program Director I, this position will function in the program section at a male correctional facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.
  • Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising Correctional Case Managers and ensuring that programs meet the necessary goals by constant evaluation and observation.
  • Will train, observe, evaluate, and supervise staff in their duties.
  • Complete, review and maintain employee time, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.
  • Coordinate and supervise programs associated with offenders’ treatment, re-entry, and/or behavior.
  • Assist supervisory staff with any special projects or assignments required by the operational demands of the Programs Section.
