About The Position
This position is located at Hyde Correctional Facility in Swan Quarter, NC. Positions in this class direct programs for the rehabilitation of inmates in the prison system. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license

- Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures of the Prisons section.
- Thorough knowledge of correctional programs and evidence-based practices.
- Ability to develop clear and concise reports and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in supervision and management techniques.
Responsibilities
- Administering programs for inmates at the larger prison facilities, or facilities having broader scope and complexity of programming.
- Functioning as assistants to the Programs Director II in larger institutions, offering a variety of program services.
- Directing a major program in a region or statewide basis.
- Supervising subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis.
- Coordinating programs with custody and other facility staff.
