About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Associate Warden of Programs at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position works in the Programs Department and its responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing and administering programs for offenders at a large maximum-security prison facility, directing a major program on an area or statewide basis (primary programs areas are inmate classification; correctional programs (work release, incentive wage, study release, home leave, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation); and supportive counseling), supervising subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis, coordinating programs with custody staff, and serving in a custody role during emergency situations as needed, such as disturbances and escapes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities
