About The Position

The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking individuals to join their next Basic Corrections Course (BCC) as Correctional Officers at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Oregon. This role involves setting limits, providing positive role model examples, and assisting in facilitating positive change in the lives of adults in custody (AIC). The position is entry-level, with the first year considered a probationary period that includes a seven-week academy course (BCC), classroom training, online courses, health and fitness classes, force skills training, and a Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP). The BCC is certified by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST) and is eligible for college credit. Training is on-the-job, meaning you earn a paycheck during training. Previous correctional experience is not required; the DOC invests in training individuals with the right integrity, passion for helping others, and motivation. Work hours, shifts, and days off during the probationary period will vary based on institutional needs and the labor contract.
