About The Position

This position provides direct supervision for the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit. Daily, this position provides leadership, maintains attendance records, conducts investigations, oversees leave schedules and conducts performance appraisals in addition to other administrative duties. Assists in holding staff accountable regarding employment objectives and expectations as outlined in the performance appraisal process. This position also implements and monitors the unit case management system providing counseling and maintain reports related to the offender progress through the institution. This individual must ensure staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to preform job responsibilities under a variety of conditions. This position is responsible for ensuring proper protocol is followed with regard to security and control to protective equipment such as OC pepper spray, handcuffs, and keys and radios and equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly, and staff are assigned and the required safety equipment and are trained in its use. Employees may serve in a variety of institutional classification committees. Position will prepare operational reports, memorandum, and documents regarding incidents such as incident reports, accident reports, use of force reports, disciplinary reports and shift narratives. This position description is not all-inclusive, and supervisor may delegate and assign other duties to positions as needed. Hours may vary based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, three of which must have been at a supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Produce a negative drug screening result.
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and Facility Operations.
