About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons, probation/parole services, and various support divisions. The Correctional Case Manager position reports to the Correctional Program Supervisor and is responsible for managing a caseload of offenders. This involves providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, addressing offender inquiries, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Key responsibilities include assisting with offender rehabilitation programs (e.g., work assignments, work release, education, recreation), transition planning, preparing reports, analyzing data, performing crisis interventions, and managing correctional programs.

Requirements

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution Or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Or An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating.
  • Preparing written reports/forms
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documents, and personal observation.
  • Performing crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention.
  • Accounting for supplies or equipment
  • Developing, implementing, and managing applicable correctional programs.
