About The Position

The Corporate Tax Intern assists with Corporate Tax functions, including tax return compliance, accounting for income taxes, information reporting, and tax research projects. The internship provides students with experience and insight into the inner workings of a Corporate Tax department at a diverse financial institution. The Corporate Tax team is an in-house department focused on minimizing UMB’s corporate tax burden while maintaining compliance with tax laws. The team collaborates, uses outside specialists when needed, and prepares workpapers, supporting memos, and documentation for tax returns and positions. Team members also stay current on tax law changes and share knowledge through collaborative discussions. The position runs from late May to late July. It is full time and hybrid: remote on Fridays and in the office Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Requirements

Completed at least two years in an undergraduate Accounting program; a tax specialty is preferred.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Desire to learn more about Corporate Tax.

Nice To Haves

Accounting tax specialty.
Interest in pursuing public accounting and/or sitting for the CPA exam.

Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns.
Participate in tax planning projects and other tax-related initiatives.
Perform tax research on federal and state tax issues.
Assist with tax provision (ASC 740) calculations and analysis.
Design or modify Excel worksheets for current-year tax data or other special projects.
Prepare local city and county business licenses.
