About The Position

The Core Faculty Physician provides primary health care in a primary health care clinic, serving the low-income, working poor, homeless, and individuals with barriers to health care in Douglas County. The physician assumes responsibility for routine patient care including assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation of injury and/or illness, and ordering of routine exams. They utilize skills in providing diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems, including curative and preventive medical care, health promotion and education, and continuing case evaluation and management. The role ensures efficient and effective patient care through collaborative planning and problem-solving with Advanced Practice Providers, clinic staff, and volunteers. The physician also acts as a consultant for and provides guidance to Advanced Practice Providers regarding clinical practice issues. This role is committed to training future family physicians to deliver quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. The physician will teach residents to treat all patients with dignity regardless of their background. Duties include teaching, mentoring, advising, and supervising residents, overseeing resident scholarly activity, quality improvement, ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education, and working directly with residents to ensure appropriate milestone development.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency.
  • Active medical license in the State of Oregon.
  • Board certification/eligibility in Family Medicine.
  • Professional clinical experience in family practice, including adult and pediatric acute and chronic primary care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Experience in full-scope FM supervising residents is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs continuing case evaluation and management.

  • Acts as a consultant for and provides guidance for Advanced Practice Providers regarding clinical practice issues.
  • Teaches, mentors, advises, and supervises residents.
  • Oversees resident scholarly activity and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures the quality of didactic and clinical education.
  • Works directly with residents to ensure appropriate milestone development.
  • Maintains own patient panel and precepts residents in an outpatient setting.
