About The Position

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group is seeking a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician to join their brand-new Family Medicine Residency Program in Lufkin, Texas. This role involves educating the next generation of physicians while providing exceptional patient care. The physician will be a foundational member of the inaugural residency program team, with the opportunity to build the program from the ground up, develop curriculum, and mentor residents. The position is a dual role, serving as both an Educator and Mentor, and a Clinical Practitioner within the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group in Lufkin. Responsibilities include program building, resident supervision and teaching, clinical excellence, curriculum development, scholarly activity, mentorship, and accreditation support. Lufkin, Texas, offers a blend of community charm and growth potential, with an affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine providing academic resources. The role offers a flexible 4.5-day work week, an integrated practice with a patient panel of approximately 18-22 patients per day, and comprehensive family medicine experience is a plus. The position is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
  • Active, unobstructed Texas medical license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-residency clinical experience is preferred.
  • Prior teaching or precepting experience highly desirable.
  • Excellent clinical, teaching, and communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to resident education, patient-centered care, and scholarly activity.

  • Prior teaching or precepting experience highly desirable.
  • Experience and comfort with treating newborns and up is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal role in shaping residents' medical education, guiding them through clinical rotations, supervising patient care, and fostering professional growth.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice within Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group in Lufkin, providing comprehensive primary care to a diverse patient population.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the new Family Medicine Residency Program.
  • Provide direct supervision, bedside teaching, and formal instruction to residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based family medicine care to your own panel of patients, serving as a role model for residents.
  • Assist in creating engaging learning experiences, lectures, and workshops for residents.
  • Engage in and encourage resident participation in quality improvement projects, scholarly pursuits, and research.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents, fostering a positive and enriching learning environment.
  • Actively participate in activities related to ACGME accreditation and program development.
