About The Position

The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking qualified individuals for the part-time, year-round position of CORE Attendant II for the CORE Recreation Center. This role is ideal for those with a passion for recreation seeking a flexible, rewarding job, with positions available in Facility Maintenance, COREkids, and at the Welcome Desk. CORE is a 59,000 square foot fitness and sports center offering cardio and strength equipment, group fitness, an indoor walking track, two gyms, habit and nutrition coaching, and activities for children. Under direct supervision, the CORE Attendant II is responsible for creating a positive member experience through superior customer service. Key duties include greeting customers, answering phones, assisting with membership signups and renewals, maintaining a clean and organized front desk and facility areas, monitoring participant behavior, enforcing policies, performing routine maintenance, handling payments, and providing support for youth and teen fitness and wellness activities. Flexible scheduling, including evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, is required, with average weekly hours ranging from 6 to 18.

Requirements

  • At least one of the education and experience requirements must be met; however, both requirements cannot be modified or waived.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Six (6) months of progressively responsible work experience or equivalent community or volunteer service in the recreation, service, or hospitality fields.
  • Participation in organized sports, volunteering with a community organization, or working in customer service are examples of equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in customer service or at the front desk is highly desired.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; Certification must be maintained through employment.
  • Basic principles and a good understanding of customer service protocols.
  • Basic standard practices in recreational sports or fitness, including current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in the planning and implementation of a variety of fitness, recreational, and educational activities relevant to CORE programs and services.
  • Fitness equipment use and basic exercise principles.
  • Basic operation of appliances and tools used for cleaning and sanitizing facilities and various fitness equipment, including using vacuums, brooms, mops, and using cleaning solutions correctly and safely according to SOPs.
  • Basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages, and fractions.
  • Basic computer competency to use membership management software, POS systems for cash/credit card transactions, Microsoft Office 365, and modern office equipment.
  • Ability to positively create a welcoming environment for all and maintain a positive attitude at work, demonstrating professional and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service, including maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude toward guests by answering their questions about memberships, classes, and services.
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced team environment, with a friendly and welcoming demeanor, and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to perform general administrative and clerical tasks and operate office machines and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with and handle member/guest service inquiries, issues, and complaints.

  • Ability to be trained in CORE operations and job tasks according to SOPs, including entering POS and membership transactions accurately, operating cash drawer and handling credit card transactions, and cleaning/sanitizing facilities and equipment.
  • Mobility: Frequent movement, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, or reaching to clean and wipe down equipment and counters, fold towels, move laundry bins, and pick up and move equipment.
  • Frequent physical activity requires pushing, pulling, or lifting supplies, equipment, or inventory items up to 50 lbs.
  • Dexterity: Frequent repetitive motion, grasping, holding, and reaching; frequent writing and typing and operating office equipment, computers, cash register, counting/ordering office and/or fitness-related supplies and equipment.
  • Vision: Clear vision and ability to read written documents, computer screens, and equipment displays.
  • Hearing/Talking: Frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone necessary for effective communication with staff, members, guests, and vendors; ability to hear and see with sufficient acuity to identify maintenance problems requiring service and repair.
  • Emotional/Psychological: Frequent use of good judgment with decision making, concentration, and public and/or coworker contact; frequently works independently alone and/or in a team setting.
  • Driving: Ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving.

Responsibilities

  • Greet all members, prospective members, and guests with a friendly and professional demeanor, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Lead CORE tours and identify prospect needs to offer membership and/or programming/coaching solutions.
  • Act as a marketing resource by promoting current CORE fitness programs, specials, and services.
  • Assist new members with membership sales/renewals, up-selling additional items or specials, and generating sales leads.
  • Utilize membership management software for sign-ups, cancellations, account updates, check-ins, class bookings, and registrations.
  • Count and reconcile the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift according to policy.
  • Process payments for memberships, services, classes, and retail purchases using cash and credit card transactions, adhering to Point of Sales (POS) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform administrative tasks including opening and closing the Welcome Desk, responding to emails, answering phones, and directing calls.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked front desk area.
  • Respond to member questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner, resolving issues or escalating them to a supervisor when necessary.
  • Monitor members for safe and appropriate behavior within the facility.
  • Attend all staff training sessions and meetings and follow SOPs to improve member service quality.
  • Provide basic assistance and guidance to users of fitness equipment and acknowledge members/guests throughout the facility.
  • Complete fitness floor opening, maintaining, and/or closing procedures.
  • Perform general and routine facility cleaning tasks according to checklists, monitoring for and addressing safety or cleanliness issues immediately.
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections for safety and maintenance needs, identifying, mitigating, and reporting issues.
  • Assist CORE Staff with tasks such as scheduling programs, events, rentals, and associated set-ups/tear-downs.
  • Monitor locker rooms and restock supplies as needed.
  • Ensure walkways are clear and open.
  • Clean facility spaces including mirrors, floors, windows, and walls.
  • Issue towels and fitness/recreational equipment.
  • Make appropriate announcements in emergencies and at closing.
  • Monitor fitness facilities to ensure a safe environment and respond promptly to safety and emergency situations according to CORE SOPs.
  • Check participants in/out of activities per SOP.
  • Communicate effectively with parents.
  • Create positive interactions and provide a safe and nurturing environment for children ages 4 to 12.
  • Plan and initiate scheduled activities, organizing and facilitating age-appropriate games and crafts for children and teens.
  • Foster an environment of movement-based fun through leader-led activities, inspiring participation and social interaction.
  • Ensure the well-being of all children by adhering to safety protocols and maintaining clean and sanitized play areas.
  • Effectively communicate with parents regarding their children's activities, behavior, and any special instructions.
  • Work collaboratively with other CORE staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
