About The Position

The Distribution Router schedules and dispatches drivers transporting products, using radio, telephone, or computer systems to communicate assignments. The role sets up customer-service deliveries and routes, maintains routing software and related records, and compiles statistics and reports on work progress. It typically routes and dispatches an average of 17 or more truck routes each day, coordinating with drivers, warehouse supervisors, customer service, corporate information systems, and sales to support efficient deliveries and resolve issues.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience.
Experience working in a Routing or Dispatch department.
Knowledge of the local metropolitan area and extensive understanding of local market geography.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

Set up customer-service deliveries and routes using systems such as Roadnet and Mobile Cast.
Maintain routing software and other systems needed for efficient operations.
Coordinate large special orders with branch driver supervisors and help equalize truck loads and stops.
Work with Customer Service and Corporate Information Systems on nightly billing and end-of-day reports.
Print and distribute reports generated from software systems.
Provide loading information to night supervisors as required.
Route and dispatch an average of 17 or more truck routes daily.
Coordinate driver routes based on customer requests and geographic considerations, in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
Notify drivers and warehouse supervision or management of schedules and assignments.
Operate an automated routing system, track schedules and route or assignment changes, and maintain follow-up information.
Track and enter driver mileage and hours in the recordkeeping system.
Work with sales and customer assistance teams to resolve shipping or delivery discrepancies and product-arrival concerns.
Make on-demand decisions to resolve issues efficiently while minimizing disruption to routes and customers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
