About The Position

The Distribution Router schedules and dispatches drivers transporting products, transmitting assignments by radio, telephone, or computer and compiling statistics and reports on work progress. The role handles customer-service delivery and route setup, maintains routing software systems, coordinates routes and special orders, and responds to delivery issues. The position routes and dispatches an average of 17 or more truck routes daily and may require extended hours, overtime, weekends, and peak-season schedules.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience.
Experience working in a Routing/Dispatch department.
Knowledge of the local metropolitan area and extensive understanding of local market geography.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

Handle customer-service delivery and route setup using systems such as Roadnet and Mobile Cast.
Maintain routing software systems and perform other required upkeep for their efficient operation.
Coordinate large special orders with branch driver supervisors and help balance loads and stops among route trucks.
Work with Customer Service and Corporate Information Systems on nightly billing and end-of-day reports.
Print and distribute reports extracted from software systems.
Provide loading information to night supervisors as needed.
Route and dispatch an average of 17 or more truck routes daily.
Coordinate drivers’ routes based on customer requests and geographic considerations, while complying with DOT regulations and company policies.
Notify drivers and warehouse supervisors or management of schedules and assignments.
Operate automated routing systems such as RoadNet; track schedules and route or assignment changes, and maintain follow-up information.
Track and enter driver mileage and hours in the recordkeeping system.
Partner with sales and customer assistance teams to resolve shipping or delivery discrepancies and product-arrival concerns.
Make on-demand decisions to resolve issues efficiently while minimizing disruption to dispatched routes and customers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
