The Coordinator Surgical/Financial Services delivers patient-centered support by coordinating scheduling, registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, preoperative testing and medical workups, and communication for patients undergoing major and minor surgical procedures. The role oversees accurate insurance and benefit verification, prior authorizations, prepayment estimates, payment collection, financial counseling, payment plans, and financial sponsorship for uninsured patients. It also ensures demographic and financial information is maintained accurately and promptly within UFHP and the UF Health System. The coordinator oversees financial screening of clinic and operating room schedules, collaborating with financial counselors to ensure accounts are appropriately screened and cleared. The position supports effective operating room utilization by monitoring surgical calendars, coordinating with providers and scheduling teams to fill open block time, and timely releasing unused block time for redistribution. The coordinator develops and monitors processes to improve point-of-service collections and preoperative payments, sets team performance goals, tracks results, and identifies opportunities for improvement and accountability. Serving as a liaison among physicians, patients, payers, surgery schedulers, financial counselors, and medical leadership, the coordinator helps plan and communicate an efficient surgical experience and resolves barriers to patient readiness. Additional duties include operational support for front-office and financial counseling functions, ordering clerical supplies, monitoring clerical in-basket messages, assisting with missing charge reports and clerical work queues, and supporting staff productivity and workflow efficiency. The role may provide coverage at other practices and adjust or flex work hours to meet operational and staffing needs.
