About The Position

The Coordinator of Special Programs provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for student engagement and specialized instructional programs across the charter school network. This position is responsible for ensuring assigned programs are implemented with fidelity, comply with all applicable laws and regulations, and support positive student outcomes through effective systems, collaboration, and continuous improvement. During the first year, the Coordinator's primary responsibilities will focus on: Short-Term Independent Study (STIS), Long-Term Independent Study (LTIS), Attendance Recovery Programs, and Monitoring chronic absenteeism and developing intervention plans to improve student attendance. As the needs of the organization evolve, the specific programs and initiatives assigned to this position may change in future years. The Coordinator will provide leadership and oversight for other student support, instructional, compliance, or special programs as assigned by the CEO or designee.

Requirements

  • Valid California Teaching Credential (Multiple Subject, Single Subject, Education Specialist, or other appropriate California credential) with English Learner Authorization.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of successful certificated experience in a California K–12 educational setting.
  • Experience coordinating programs, leading initiatives, or supporting student services.
  • Knowledge of California Education Code, attendance requirements, and instructional compliance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and develop improvement plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across multiple school sites.
  • Knowledge of California Education Code related to attendance, Independent Study, and student services.
  • Understanding of instructional best practices and student engagement strategies.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and implement compliant systems.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of assigned special programs across the charter school network.
  • Develop standardized procedures, guidance documents, and implementation plans to ensure consistency across school sites.
  • Monitor program effectiveness using data and recommend improvements to increase student success and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and department leaders to ensure successful implementation of assigned initiatives.
  • Stay informed of changes in state and federal laws, regulations, and best practices related to assigned programs.
  • Develop and oversee consistent network-wide procedures for Short-Term Independent Study and Long-Term Independent Study.
  • Ensure all Independent Study programs comply with California Education Code, charter requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate enrollment, instructional plans, attendance accounting, required documentation, and record maintenance.
  • Monitor timelines, teacher interactions, assignment completion, and student progress.
  • Conduct periodic compliance reviews and audits.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of attendance recovery opportunities for eligible students.
  • Develop systems that support instructional recovery while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Monitor participation, completion rates, and program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with school staff to identify eligible students and ensure timely intervention.
  • Monitor attendance data across all schools to identify trends and students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
  • Develop network-wide systems for early identification and intervention.
  • Partner with principals, counselors, and attendance teams to develop attendance improvement plans.
  • Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) related to attendance and student engagement.
  • Coordinate family outreach and community-based interventions designed to improve attendance.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations for organizational leadership.
  • Ensure assigned programs comply with all applicable federal, state, charter, and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare documentation for audits and state reporting.
  • Develop recommendations to improve operational effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures related to assigned programs.
  • Serve as a resource to school leaders regarding assigned programs.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development for certificated and classified staff.
  • Collaborate with Pupil Services, Special Education, Expanded Learning, Curriculum and Instruction, IT, Arts, and school leadership teams.
  • Foster positive partnerships with students, families, and community organizations.
  • Analyze student participation, attendance, and program performance data.
  • Develop reports and dashboards for school and organizational leadership.
  • Establish measurable goals for assigned programs and monitor progress throughout the year.
  • Use data to recommend evidence-based improvements and interventions.
  • Assume leadership for additional special programs, initiatives, or organizational priorities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.
