About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Campus Recreation, the Budget Coordinator is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day financial management of Athletics Department operations. This position provides oversight for business operations, budgeting, financial analysis, operational planning, policy implementation, and administrative services supporting the department’s purpose and CSU/NCAA/Conference compliance requirements. The incumbent performs highly responsible analytical and fiscal operations work involving budget administration, financial planning, program evaluation, and organizational support. The position serves as a key advisor to athletics leadership regarding fiscal stewardship, resource allocation, and budgeting process improvement initiatives. This role combines advanced administrative analysis and budget management responsibilities consistent with the Administrative Analyst/Specialist classification and Budget Analyst professional series.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of financial, budgetary, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, administrative, personnel fiscal management, and cash-flow management.
  • Working knowledge of research techniques and statistical principles and procedures.
  • General knowledge of the principles of position control and budgetary alignment.
  • Advanced proficiency in using financial system, word processing and spreadsheet software and applications.
  • Strong analytical skills in order to evaluate and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to define problem areas, collect data, perform preliminary analyses, make appropriate recommendations, and prepare clear and concise analytical comments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information and ideas and advise managers, staff, and faculty regarding budgeting policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in NCAA Division I, II, or III athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, administration, monitoring, and reconciliation of Athletics Department budgets, including state, IRA, trust, foundation, and special project funds.
  • Perform financial analysis related to revenue projections, expenditures, position control, labor distribution, and cash flow management.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the University Business Office (UBO) in preparation of budget reports, financial forecasts, variance analyses, and operational summaries for Athletics leadership.
  • Facilitate operational support for all travel requests and reconciliation in Concur.
  • Analyze budget trends and provide recommendations regarding fiscal planning, resource allocation, and cost containment strategies. Monitor budget performance and identify budgetary issues, discrepancies, and opportunities for operational improvement. Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to conduct detailed financial analysis and maintain fiscal accountability.
  • Support annual budget development processes and year-end financial close activities including all EADA and NCAA AUP processes.
