About The Position

Allegro Living, a premier senior living platform, is seeking a Cook to join their dining team at Alto Grayslake. The Cook will be responsible for preparing high-quality, delicious, and attractively presented food for residents and guests, enhancing their dining experience. This role involves supervising kitchen activities under the direction of the Dining Services Director and Chef/Lead Cook, ensuring adherence to recipes, budgeted costs, and company policies. The Cook will also assist with dishwashing, equipment maintenance, and monitoring food safety standards to prevent foodborne illnesses. A friendly and service-oriented approach to residents and associates is expected, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be flexible/adaptable, pay attention to detail, and have a sense of teamwork.
  • Must possess good time management skills and a keen awareness of safety.
  • Must possess current manager’s level food handler permit.
  • Must have positive Criminal Background Screening.
  • Adherence to the Company Drug Free Workplace policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on a cook line and in a restaurant-style service environment preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year related cooking experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Some software and computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food of the highest quality and taste for residents and guests, ensuring presentation enhances the dining experience.
  • Prepare delicious and attractive food that is colorful and tastefully presented.
  • Supervise the kitchen under the direction of the Dining Services Director (DSD) and Chef/Lead Cook.
  • Prepare high quality meals consistent with local customs and tastes.
  • Consistently adhere to the standard recipes, the budgeted costs and Company policies.
  • Supervise and/or assist in the proper washing of all dishes, cookware, flatware, and utensils.
  • Properly maintain all kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor water temperatures and/or chemical compounds as appropriate to ensure the prevention of foodborne illness and the spread of communicable disease.
  • Approach residents and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
