About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve meals in accordance with the provided menu. This role involves food preparation, inventory management, accepting deliveries, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and adhering to food safety and health standards. The Cook will also communicate effectively with kitchen staff, manage volunteers, and perform other duties as assigned by the manager. A satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

Requirements

  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve all meals in accordance with the menu provided on his/her shift.
  • Perform food preparation tasks including washing, chopping, peeling, mixing, cooking, and baking.
  • Prepare inventory lists.
  • Accept deliveries from vendors, check invoices against products received, and store products accordingly.
  • Ensure all food donations received are recorded properly.
  • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen utensils, tools, containers, fridge, walk-in cooler, freezer, pantry, and food holding areas.
  • Ensure all work areas are clean prior to the completion of every meal.
  • Adhere to proper standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods.
  • Adhere to fire, health, and safety standards pertaining to the kitchen and other areas of the Centre.
  • Adhere to guidelines of proper food safety at all times.
  • Ensure pantry, walk-in freezer, and fridge are locked prior to the end of shift.
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff.
  • Manage volunteers and community service hours workers in the kitchen.
  • Keep kitchen walk-in cooler, freezer, pantry, and dining room area clean and tidy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the manager.
