About The Position

This position prepares meals and oversees activities of the food preparation staff. Employees in this position monitor conditions of work areas and ensure proper stocking and rotation of inventory items. This position maintains cleanliness and sanitation standards while performing essential functions. The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is an independent special taxing district that has served as a healthcare safety net for more than 36 years to fill in gaps in access to healthcare services. This unique healthcare system covers the entire county and provides a wide range of services such as nine community health centers (Federally Qualified Health Centers) which serve everyone regardless of ability to pay; school health teams in 172 public schools; a lifesaving Trauma Hawk aeromedical helicopter program; a rural, public teaching hospital, Lakeside Medical Center; an award-winning skilled nursing center; a ground ambulance program for Health Care District patients needing a higher level of care and the county’s Trauma Agency, which ensures quality outcomes within the county’s trauma system and leads initiatives to prevent traumatic injury.

Requirements

  • Agency of Health Care Administration (AHCA) background screening and clearance may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors food preparation staff in all aspects of meal preparation and maintaining safe, clean, and efficiently operating work areas.
  • Determines appropriate substitutions for menu items if necessary.
  • Monitors conditions such as sanitation, temperatures, weights, special diet preparation, and equipment functioning.
  • Receives deliveries and maintains proper stocking and rotation of inventory items.
  • Refills supply areas.
  • Provides instruction to food preparation personnel in proper methods, techniques, and time management.
  • Retrieves food items from stock areas, freezers, and refrigeration areas.
  • Performs food preparation tasks (e.g., washing, chopping, skinning, pureeing, tenderizing).
  • Prepares special orders and menu items according to prescribed diets.
  • Cooks various foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as applicable to assigned shift.
  • Properly labels and stores left over foods.
  • Observes personal sanitation procedures (e.g., washing hands, wearing hair nets).
  • Acts as a resource to other employees and assists co-workers as needed.
  • Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
