About The Position

Food Service personnel are responsible to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, Food and Nutrition Services Field Supervisor, and the Kitchen Manager. The Cook Assistant makes a “School Meal Pattern” lunch available to every school child; assists in preparing and serving nutritious food as required by participation in the federal program; and provides sanitary working conditions. Salary is based on the 2025-2026 Food Service Salary Schedule; (salary will be updated according to the 2026-27 school year salary schedule once it has been approved). Salary placement is based on experience and longevity and will be determined by Human Resources.

Requirements

• Must be neat, clean, alert, accurate, and have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff and students.
• Requires strong basic skills to accurately follow written instructions and utilize basic math calculations.
• Position requires stamina (standing long hours) and ability to consistently lift 30 pounds.
• Must be a good role model and enjoy working with children.
• Must have or obtain a Food Handler’s permit.

Responsibilities

• Makes a “School Meal Pattern” lunch available to every school child.
• Assists in preparing and serving nutritious food as required by participation in the federal program.
• Provides sanitary working conditions.
• Assist in preparation and service of all menu items for Breakfast and Lunch which is appealing and attractive to students.
• Learn and become proficient in the operation of large equipment such as ovens, range, dishwasher, meat slicer, garbage disposal, steam-jacketed kettle, proofer, steamers, and mixer.
• Be able to maintain a clean kitchen with sanitary working conditions.
• Know and contribute to routine required by job service program and specific kitchen.
• Perform all duties necessary to maintain a "School Meal Pattern" lunch.
• Ability to communicate effective with administrators, co-workers, parents, students, and others as needed.
