About The Position

DSHS is hiring three Cook 2s to support kitchen operations at Maple Lane Campus in Centralia, Washington. The role prepares high-quality meals for patients while ensuring food safety and nutritional excellence. Cook 2s provide kitchen leadership, help coordinate food preparation, and ensure regular and special diets are prepared correctly and safely in accordance with instructions and standard procedures. The work schedule is 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The position is performed on-site. Employees working at least three days per week on-site at this location may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay. Evening and night shifts include a shift differential in addition to standard compensation.

Requirements

Two years of cooking experience in a large-scale food service or culinary operation; completion of a course in large-scale cooking may substitute for one year of experience; OR one year as a Cook 1 in State service.

Responsibilities

Lead assigned kitchen personnel to ensure regular and special diets are prepared correctly and safely in accordance with instructions and standard procedures.
Collaborate with cooks to prepare meals on time and assess food quality and palatability by taste and smell.
Establish work methods, instruct others in routine kitchen work, train assigned staff, and plan and assign work duties.
Prepare products according to standardized recipes by measuring and assembling ingredients, and plan and initiate cooking schedules to meet meal times.
Store food items at appropriate temperatures and routinely check equipment for proper performance.
Complete food inventory requisitions from the storeroom, maintain accurate and rotated production inventory, and restock the kitchen for subsequent shifts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
