Job Summary: The CONVENTIONAL MACHINIST operates conventional Die Shop machinery to prepare dies for use on a forging press and make the associated miscellaneous forge tooling.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of similar machining experience required.
  • Must be certified to operate a forklift.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and die designs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with shop math including calculations with decimals and fractions, basic trigonometry and geometry.
  • Use and read precision measuring instruments.
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
  • English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehension).
  • Highly detailed, organized and deadline-oriented, with the ability to prioritize, focus and thrive in a high paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all employees across all levels and departments at APP.

Responsibilities

  • Operates conventional Die Shop machinery to prepare dies for use on a forging press and make the associated miscellaneous forge tooling.
  • Efficient in basic shop math.
  • Read die drawings and blueprints.
  • Lay out own work on machines according to die requirements.
  • Set-up and operate all conventional Die Shop machinery including mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, etc. with little or no supervision.
  • Machine wraps and rings.
  • Make miscellaneous forge tooling.
  • Recognize and replace any dull or chipped tooling.
  • Transport dies by forklift.
  • Perform basic die repair.
  • Re-work tryout dies as required.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Ensure quality parts to meet customers’ and APP’s requirements.
  • Work at an acceptable level of productivity.
  • Uphold safe and honest work habits and practices.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Be cross-trained on multiple operations.
  • Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.
  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by the APP leadership.
