The CONVENTIONAL MACHINIST operates conventional Die Shop machinery to prepare dies for use on a forging press and make the associated miscellaneous forge tooling. This role requires efficient use of basic shop math, the ability to read die drawings and blueprints, and to lay out work on machines according to die requirements. The machinist will set-up and operate all conventional Die Shop machinery including mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, etc., with little or no supervision. Responsibilities include machining wraps and rings, making miscellaneous forge tooling, recognizing and replacing dull or chipped tooling, transporting dies by forklift, performing basic die repair, and reworking tryout dies as required. The position also involves assuring quality and production requirements are met, participating in total quality management projects, LEAN manufacturing, and SPC activities to achieve continuous improvement. Ensuring quality parts to meet customer and APP requirements, working at an acceptable level of productivity, and upholding safe and honest work habits are essential. Employees are expected to be cross-trained on multiple operations and ensure adherence to all process specifications. Support for the Plant quality system goals and productivity goals is also required. Any other duties not mentioned may be assigned by APP leadership.
