About The Position

The Controls Estimator will provide controls support and estimates for commercial projects quoted by the department. This role involves reviewing plans and specifications to determine controls products needed, translating these into specific control component lists, and estimating pricing for products. The position requires obtaining external vendor pricing and special quotations while maintaining competitive pricing and maximizing gross margins. The Controls Estimator will also coordinate prior approval requests, quotes, plans, and specs with the engineering services department, partner with Account Executives and Territory Managers to ensure customer satisfaction, and seek training opportunities to enhance product knowledge and customer experience. After submittal approval, the role includes setting up the project, handing it off to the project manager, and participating in initial mobilization meetings. Additionally, the Controls Estimator will facilitate sales and pre-bid meetings, provide excellent customer service via phone, and perform other duties as assigned, while cooperating with others and complying with company policies.

Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience with Commercial HVAC experience, a plus
  • 3 years’ Customer Service experience preferred
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office, Excel and Adobe
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess a satisfactory driving record as determined by Company Driver Policies

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent field of study, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and specifications to determine controls product to be estimated
  • Translate plans and specifications into a specific list of control components needed for a job by selecting appropriate controls for the equipment application
  • Estimate pricing for needed products and send quotes to customers or commercial department
  • Obtain external vendor pricing, special quotations from subcontractors as for products while maintaining competitive pricing levels and maximizing gross margins
  • Coordinate prior approval requests, quotes, plans and specs with engineering services department
  • Partner with Account Executives and Territory Managers on projects/jobs to maintain customer satisfaction to ensure repeat business
  • Seek out training opportunities to expand product knowledge and understand processes to enhance the customer’s experience
  • After submittal is approved, handle setting up the project and handing it off to the assigned project manager and participating in initial mobilization meeting
  • Facilitate sales and pre-bid meetings to determine sales strategy for projects estimated
  • Answer calls and provide customers with a high level of customer service
  • Other duties as assigned
